INTERNSHIP AT JERSEY REDS AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY TO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE JERSEY SPORT STUDENTS

JERSEY REDS have announced that as part of their ongoing commitment to student development and as a key partner to Higher Education at University College Jersey, they will be offering an exclusive internship to students on the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sport.

The internship will offer the successful applicant an unparalleled opportunity to explore the more technical side of professional sport: the intern will be tasked with helping to provide the Reds with valuable insight through the analysis of the team’s performance.

As part of this exciting role, the selected intern/s will be involved with filming, coding and the use of specialist software, in addition to working with the Reds’ coaches and players.

Shaun Slater, Head of Analysis with Jersey Reds, said: “We are delighted that we’ll be working with Highlands College next season. Analysis is a very important part of professional rugby and we believe this internship will provide invaluable insight and experience to the successful candidate.”

Andrew McGinnigle, course leader at Highlands College explained: “There are so many options for students who have enrolled on the HND in Sport. People tend to think as far as coaching or personal training – which are of course extremely valuable routes – but often other pathways are completely overlooked. This internship with Jersey Reds highlights sports analysis as just one of the many career options available to students.”

The HND in Sport is a new degree-equivalent course offering at Highlands College and is being supported by six key on-island partners: Jersey Sport; Jersey Sport Foundation; Jersey Cricket: Jersey Football Association; Jersey Bulls FC and Jersey Reds.

As part of their course, all students will have 20 weeks’ of work experience with local providers to apply their theoretical studies to practical hands-on experience.
