Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Employers,
After spending the day carefully assessing the college buildings and site, it is safe for us to open fully on Monday.
We are aware that some of our community has sadly had to leave their homes due to damage caused by the storm. We will shortly be sending out a survey to staff and students so that we can better understand each individual’s circumstances and how we might best be able to support them. Please do also get in touch with us directly by emailing: info@highlands.ac.uk
Driving to Highlands College today, the team has observed that there are still significant road closures in the area – namely St Saviours Road and Wellington Hill. We do hope that these will be clear by Monday morning but advise that you leave extra time. This is particularly important for those students who have an examination next week. We will of course show flexibility for lateness to classes while things settle down, but examinations must start on-time.
There has been damage to several building and trees on the campus but the caretaking team will continue their work over the weekend to make as much of the site as accessible as possible. Some areas may need to remain out of bounds and these will be clearly cordoned off.
Jersey has experienced a few major incidents in quick succession, for this reason, specialist leaflets and videos have been developed and added to gov.je. You may find these useful.
Please keep safe and we look forward to seeing all our students on Monday.
With our very best wishes from all our Highlands staff and Governing Body to you.
Jo Terry-Marchant
Principal.
