Highlands College Prepares for Historic AHT Competition with National Judge David Bassett

The Highlands College Hair & Beauty Academy recently welcomed esteemed AHT National Judge, David Bassett, for a training session ahead of the upcoming AHT (Association of Hairdressers and Therapists) regional competition.

Taking place on 26th March at Highlands College, this marks the first-ever AHT Channel Islands regional competition, where our students will go head-to-head with Guernsey for a coveted spot in the national finals.

David, who has now travelled to Guernsey Institute to deliver the same expert workshop, was highly impressed with the talent and professionalism of the Highlands College students.

David Bassett says: “When I met the students this morning, I was very impressed by their knowledge of the theory. A big part of working in a salon is how you deal with your clients, and this is something that these students are doing really well. A big lesson I am trying to teach these students is not to be afraid of competitions, as they will be in competition for their entire working life—not with other colleges, but with other salons.”

Those who succeed in the regional round will have the opportunity to take part in the AHT National Finals on Monday 12 May in Blackpool, where they will compete in front of VTCT national judges and AHT national judges.

David’s visit to Highlands College was proudly sponsored by Bohemia Salon Pro Services, who strongly believe in supporting the future of the hair and beauty industry.

“Sponsoring events for the local college is an investment in the future of our industry and our community. By supporting the next generation of professionals, we help provide valuable education, inspiration, and real-world experience. At the same time, it strengthens brand presence among emerging talent and builds lasting relationships with future salon owners and stylists. It’s a partnership that benefits everyone—empowering students, growing our industry, and reinforcing our commitment to innovation and education.”

With the invaluable insights from David Bassett and the support from industry leaders like Bohemia, Highlands College students are set to make a lasting impact at this year’s AHT competition.
