Who is this course for?
The course will develop your confidence and ability to work independently. You will gain knowledge from core studies, optional units, and work experience to build on your existing skills. You will take part in various classes, some of which will be in a classroom environment, some outdoors, and some in vocational areas. The overall aim is to help develop your confidence, communication, numeracy and literacy skills to progress onto further studies.
On the Pathways course you will receive excellent help and support from experienced Tutors and Teaching Assistants. Working in small classes, you will notice that your self-confidence and self-esteem will grow.
Pathways will also boost your social skills and ability to get on with a variety of different people. With the support of your tutors, you will develop skills to help you manage your learning and be given the opportunity to develop skills in English and Maths, making you ready to study on the next level of your chosen course.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
No formal qualifications required.
Entry will be through school transition arrangements.
How long is this course?
One-year full-time course starting in September and ending in June.
What will I study on this course?
With the support and guidance of experienced tutors, you’ll study core lessons that focus on improving your teamwork, confidence, and personal wellbeing to become a more effective learner by the end of the course. Alongside this, you can also work on your English and Math skills, gain some work experience, and study different vocational options. There is also the opportunity to achieve the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
What Qualification will I gain?
The qualification will be the Pathways Progression Qualification.
Will I go out on work experience?
Courses at Highlands are about preparing you for the world of work. As part of your course, you will learn how to go about presenting yourself to an employer to stand the best chance of getting the job you are looking for. You will spend one week in a work placement.
What does this course lead on to?
The Pathways course provides an introduction to a number of subjects. These lessons will help you choose what vocational area suits you the most when applying to study at the next appropriate level or progress to an apprenticeship.

Additional Information
All 6th form courses are subject to minimum enrolment numbers. Where a course does not meet the required number, it will be reluctantly cancelled for that academic year. Applicants affected will be contacted and offered a transfer to another course if a suitable one is available.
Anyone who has been out of education for longer than 6 months will be invited for interview. Following interview, the application will be referred to a review panel.
