Who is this course for?
This Air Source Heat Pump Installation Course is designed to provide a level 3 qualification and covers air to water heat pump technologies.
The course will provide detailed theory and practical knowledge enabling you to apply the relevant regulations and guidance when involved within the renewable industry.
At the end of this course you will be able to install and maintain Air Source Heat Pumps and you will meet the training entry requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)
This course is aimed at experienced heating installers who wish to expand their knowledge & skills to include fitting heat pumps in domestic and small commercial properties.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
This course is aimed at experienced heating installers. You must have previously completed the WRAS Water Regulations qualification*.
Learners should also have knowledge in the installation of heating and hot water systems. Demonstrated by:
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.
or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.
or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.
or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.
or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.
or
- Heating installers with experience installing wet central heating systems, evidenced either by manufacturer courses certification or Gas Safe Register, OFTEC, MCS or HETAS registration.

How long is this course?
This is a three-day course that will run from 1 – 3 February 2023, 7 – 9 March 2023
& 19-21 April 2023.

What will I study on this course?
The Air Source Heat Pump Installation Course will enable operatives to specify, survey, design and install domestic or small commercial heat pump systems, enlisting manufacturers support where required. Systems up to 16kW for air source heat pumps are covered, plus the following areas:
– Background to market
– Heat pump regulations and guidance
– Principles of air source heat pump operation
– Heat pump types
– Matching to the correct heating system
– Pre-installation requirements
– Installation materials and methods
– Setting to work, commissioning
– Heat pump servicing and fault finding
What Qualification will I gain?
Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant circuits)
Will I go out on work experience?
Heating installers with minimum 3 years of experience installing wet central heating systems
How is the course assessed?
The Air Source Heat Pump Installation course entails both classroom and practical training, finishing with a practical & theoretical assessment at the end of day 3.
