Course Details
This course is designed for anyone who wants to become a more critical and empowered consumer of the media. In this course, students will explore how consumers are influenced and manipulated while also being entertained and informed. Each week, the course looks at different aspects of advertising, news media, radio and television programmes, magazines and other forms of the media, to discuss and analyse how meaning is created and interpreted, and for what purposes it is produced. By the end of the course, students will have the confidence to spot bias in news reporting, to determine how politicians on both sides of the Atlantic are represented, and to be able to name who is responsible for regulation of the media. Students should bring their own laptop or tablet, or one will be provided for them.£179
