This course is ideal for anyone already working in the childcare field with children aged 0-7 years and wishing to gain a recognised qualification.
This qualification is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

What are the entry requirements for the course?
A satisfactory Police Check and reference must be provided by your employer completed prior to acceptance on this course.
No formal qualifications are required, but candidates must be working in the sector (paid or voluntary) with children 0-7 years for a minimum of 2 days a week (or 15 hours).
A good level of literacy is needed.
All candidates will need access to a PC or laptop.
All potential learners must be interviewed (date tbc) to determine suitability to be assessed in their place of work. Strict entry requirements apply.
How long is this course?
This 30 week part-time course will take place at Highlands College spanning over one academic year commencing on 12/09/2024 – 14/05/2025.
15:00pm – 19:00pm
Final completion date of 19/12/2025.

- Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner.
- Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years.
- Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings.
- Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings.
- Understand how to support children’s development.
- Support care routines for babies and young children.
- Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes.
- Promote play in an Early Years Setting.
- Support well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles.
- Support babies and young children to be physically active.
- Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability.
- Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings.
- Partnership working in the early years.
- Support the needs of the child in preparing for school.
What Qualification will I gain?
Work-based assessment and a complete portfolio of work-based practice and assignments will gain you a Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner.
Will I go out on work experience?
All candidates must be working (paid or voluntary) in a childcare setting with children aged 0-7 years
How is the course assessed?
Assessment of competence in the workplace is necessary together with some assignment-based work, making up a portfolio of knowledge.
What does this course lead on to?
NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce. (EYE)
