Who is this course for?
This course is designed for those who wish to train in Hairdressing whilst working within the industry.
Applicants will attend the Hair and Beauty Academy one day per week to study all aspects of the NVQ Hairdressing qualifications.
Candidates may apply directly to Level 3 if current skills are competent.
Applicants should visit the Gov.je website and apply using the online Apprenticeship application form, which can be found via this link: Trackers: the apprentice programme.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
- Personal presentation to reflect industry needs.
- Full time employment within industry, a good standard of education and a proven record of involvement in industry (i.e. Saturday work or work placement) or completion of the Jersey Progression Diploma in Hairdressing.
- For applicants who have English as a second language, Level 1 ESOL will be required.
- There are no age restrictions on this course.
How long is this course?
Level 2 is a ONE-year day release programme (34 weeks per year) which runs on Monday’s, starting in September 2024 (10:00am -17:00pm each week)
Level 3 is a ONE-year day release programme which runs on Tuesday’s, starting in September 2024 (11:00am – 19:00pm each week)
Candidates who have completed Level 2 may apply directly for Level 3.

Level 2 – ONE year
- Advise & consult with clients
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair & scalp
- Develop & maintain your effectiveness at work
- Style & finish hair
- Set & dress hair
- Cut hair using basic techniques
- Colour & lighten hair
- Plait & twist hair
- Cut men’s hair using basic techniques
- Fulfil salon reception duties
Level 3 – ONE year
- Provide client consultation services
- Creatively style & dress hair
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Creatively colour & lighten hair
- Hair colour correction services
- Cut men’s hair using basic techniques
What Qualification will I gain?
VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
<>VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
Will I go out on work experience?
Candidates will already be working within the industry.
How is the course assessed?
Practical assessments both within the Hair and Beauty Academy commercial salons and within the workplace by qualified Assessors.
Assessment will also take place with online exams and written work.
What does this course lead on to?
Salon manager, Senior Stylist, Colour Specialist, Award in Education & Training and the TAQA Assessors qualification.
Progression from Level 2 to Level 3 is supported and encouraged.
How much will it cost?
- Course book: TBC.
- Uniform: Smart black & current professional salon dress as per salon requirements.
- Practical Hairdressing Kit – order forms will be included in the enrolment pack.
If self-funding; Level 2 will cost £1128 and Level 3 will cost £1104. Funding might be available through the Trackers Apprenticeship programme.
