Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at qualified Level 2 fitness instructors in the workplace who are looking to progress to the next level and gain their YMCA Level 3 Personal Training Certificate.
This is an apprenticeship, and therefore runs as a one-day per week programme supported by employers, health and fitness professionals, and other relevant health-related occupations.
This course is about developing and extending fitness knowledge, while putting it into practice with leading health and fitness professionals, to establish yourself in the fitness industry for the long term.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
YMCA Level 2 Fitness Instructor (gym-based), or YMCA Level 2 approved equivalent qualification.
How long is this course?
This is a 1-year course running from September 2021 to June 2022, looking to run on Fridays 9am to 4pm. This will be subject to minimum numbers before it will approved to run this up and coming academic year.
What will I study on this course?
- Anatomy and Physiology of the body systems.
- Maintain health, safety and welfare of fitness environments.
- Programme safe and effective exercises for clients.
- Application of the principles of nutrition and healthy eating.
- Design manage and adapt personal training programmes.
- Deliver exercise classes and coach physical activities.
What Qualification will I gain?
YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Fitness (Gym Based)
Will I go out on work experience?
Learners would normally already be with an established employer, who would support this one-day per week course.
How is the course assessed?
Mixture on practical, theory, exams and course booklets
What does this course lead on to?
Potential Level 3 Year 2 fitness apprenticeship, covering additional bolt-on modules for established Level 3 Personal Trainers (subject to approval and demand).
How much will it cost?
£500 fee to be paid by either employer and/or apprentice subject to Trackers terms and conditions
£2100 for private individuals wishing

This fitness provision provides excellent value for people on island to develop their skills and knowledge of fitness.
